Obituary

Burton William Davis, age 89, of St. Albans passed away November 1, 2008. He retired from Union Carbide of the South Charleston Plant in 1981 after 40 years of service. Born July 9, 1919, Burton was next to the youngest of 11 children born to William and Isabelle Rhodes Davis of Beechy Ridge, Clay County. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Davis; his parents; sisters, Alma Hart, Ethel Thomas, Alice Davis, Nina Davis; and brothers, Carl, Howard, Luther, Lloyd, Meade and Paul. Burton was a faithful, attending member of The Bible Center Church of Charleston since the mid-1940's when Pastor Reid Jepson officiated. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence Stephenson Davis; daughter, Janice Drake of Lockbourne, OH; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Davis of St. Albans; daughter, Ann and her husband, Bruce Sinclair of St. Albans; son, Michael Davis and his wife, Lisa of West Lafayette, OH; and son, Stephen Davis and his wife, Vicky of Valley Head. Also surviving are grandchildren, Scott and Brian Drake; Jonathan Davis and Tamara Harpold; Heather Brelsford and Holly Davis-Dicke; Diane and Cory Davis; and Megan Sinclair; and great-grandchildren, Brandon, Elizabeth, and Zoe Drake; Kayla and Courtney Davis; and Andrew Harpold. Burton was respected and honored by all who knew him. As a husband he gave endless love and devotion; as father he lead by example rather than words. He showed strength to the end and still occasionally delighted us with his spontaneous humor. He will be forever missed. Funeral service will be Tuesday November 4 1:00 PM, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor David Jones, and Pastor Jesse Wagner officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
