According to descriptive muster rolls from the Illinois State Archive, Alfred Wilson was residing in Ridge Farm, Verm. Co., Illinois when he enlisted on May 11, 1864 in Georgetown, Illinois. He's described as 18 years old, 5'3" with light hair, gray eyes and a fair complexion, single and a farmer. He served in Co. E of the 135 Ill. Inf. until he was mustered out on Sept. 28, 1864 in Mattoon, Illinois.

Note: if the 1849 birth year is accurate, Alfred would have actually been around 15 years old when he enlisted.

He married Anna Elizabeth "Annie" Brady on Oct. 25, 1873 in Vermilion Co., Illinois

Family Notes:

William Wilson and Mary Jane Macomber had four children, a daughter, Rachel, a son Christopher Columbus, and twin sons, Alfred and Albro. They are also caring for William's son, William Alonzo Wilson, from William's first marriage to Rachel Littlehale.

William Wilson and his family are present in the 1850 federal census for Vermilion county, Illinois. By the 1860 federal census, William and Mary Jane Wilson are no longer listed in the census records and the three younger children are being raised by foster parents. William's death date and burial place are, at present, unknown.

This does indicated that Alfred's age when he entered the Civil War was about 15. He may not have been 16 until Aug of 1864.

Rachel is married to James Spragg.
William is married to Nancy Potter.

Alfred is buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm, Vermilion, Illinois buried beside his wife Annie Brady Wilson. Albro Wilson's burial place is unknown but he died after the 1860 census and may be buried somewhere in Vermilion county.
