Robert Carlos "Bob" Straight, 87, of NYS Route 9N, Jay, New York, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, New York.

He was born in Jay, July 4, 1929, the son of Walter and Cora (Richards) Straight.

Bob grew up in Jay. He began working at a young age doing various jobs with his father and other small companies. He then worked for Arto Monaco making toys before spending 40 years with the Ward Lumber Company in various positions. His last employment for 22 years was with the Town of Jay and Town of Black Brook (ACAP) delivering meals on wheels which was the most satisfying time in all his years of employment.

Bob was a member of the Jay Fire Department for over 55 years serving as a member, Fire Chief and then following in his father's footsteps as a Fire Commissioner.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, horseshoes, snowmobiling and especially time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a special friend, Robbie Lincoln.

Left to cherish the memory of Bob were his loving wife of 67 years, Freda L. (Hathaway) Straight; children, Nancy L. Straight McLean (Wayne), William W. Straight (Lynda), Robert J. Straight (Debra), seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Straight, his sister, Mary Louise McLean and husband, his sister, Lila Straight Wheeler and husband, and his sister Evelyn Straight LaVarnway and husband.

At Bob's request there was no public calling hours or funeral service. Private burial was held in Central Cemetery at Jay.
