Mr. Tommy Ray Mitchell, age 64, a resident of the Santa Fe Community, passed away Sunday morning, January 1, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Ricky Clay, Bro. Brian Adkisson, and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Potts Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM and again on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

A native of Santa Fe, Tommy was born on April 1, 1952 and was the son of the late Tommy Raymond Mitchell and Kathleen Potts Mitchell.

He was a 1970 graduate of Santa Fe High School where he was well known as a valuable player for basketball and as a four year letterman and was a great offensive and defensive player. He later attended and graduated from Tennessee Vocational Trade School in Dickson. Growing up he attended Elmore Nazarene Church, and was presently attending Theta Church of Christ. He formerly worked for Union Carbide for several years, as well as, Publix Shirt Factory.

Tommy was self employed for 26 years in the HVAC industry. He enjoyed going camping and watching all sports, including Nascar. Tommy loved getting together at family gatherings. He loved his family, but he especially loved his children and will be deeply missed.

Along with his mother, he is survived by his wife: Teresa Rice Mitchell of Santa Fe; son: Evan Mitchell of Huntsville, AL; daughter: Ashlyn Mitchell of Martin; brother: Darvin Mitchell of Santa Fe; very special niece: Christy (Johnny) Cates of Santa Fe; great niece: Kelsey Cates of Santa Fe; mother-in-law: Wanda Rice of Santa Fe; father-in-law: David Rice of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law: Lisa Rice Hargrove of Columbia, Joan (Chris) Rochester of Columbia; aunts: Ruth Smith, Audrey Slaughter, Ester Kinney, Earline Morrow, Carolyn Potts, Joyce Smith; and uncle: Charlie Potts.

Im addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Calvin & Josie Potts and John & Effie Mitchell.
