Leonor F. (Martins) Stone, age 90, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Marian Manor in Taunton. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard K. Stone and former wife of the late Joseph J. Sousa.
Born in St. Michaels, Portugal on July 18, 1926, she was a loving daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Pacheco) Martins.
Leonor moved to the United States in 1966 and settled in Taunton, where she had made home ever since. She was a retired leather puller and worked at the John E. Lucy Shoe Company in Bridgewater for many years prior to retiring.
Mrs. Stone was a communicant of the Annunciation of the Lord Church in Taunton and treasured times spent in the presence of her loving family.
Leonor’s hobbies included a love for plants and gardening, feeding the birds that visited her yard, fishing on Cape Cod, trips to area casinos, walking and dancing, and she will always be fondly remembered for her exceptional cooking skills.
She is survived by her devoted and loving children Conceio Banana of Taunton, Maria Diamantina Sousa of East Providence, RI, Joseph Alves Sousa of Taunton, John F. DeSousa of East Bridgewater, Emanuel DeSousa of Taunton, Maria Leonor Sousa of Taunton, Antonio F. Sousa of Taunton and Kenneth R. Stone of Taunton. She was the dear sister of Urbano Martins and Maria G. Teixeira and was pre-deceased by six siblings. She is also survived by many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held at the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo St. Taunton. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton MA.
