Kathryn Clarke Winstead Gray, 86, passed from this life Wednesday, December 14, 2016, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born April 24, 1930, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to the late Roy Davis Clarke and Kathryn Harrison Clarke.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husbands, John Jones Winstead and William Ernest Gray Jr.; son, David Clarke Winstead; and brother, Herbert Tanner.

Kathy retired from Colonel Bull Dental Clinic, Fort Lee, Virginia where she was awarded the Department of Army Achievement Medal for service during Operation Desert Shield. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Charlottesville.

She is survived by her son, John "Marc" Marcus Winstead and his wife, Della; grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Winstead, John Marcus Winstead II, and James "Junior" Robert Bennett Jr; and asister, Mariam Barnes Vick. Throughout the years, Kathy remained especially close to her daughter, Deborah Gray Bennett and her husband, Bob; and her niece, Kitty Barnes Whitlow and her husband, Ronnie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1500 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901, with Pastors Rob Robertson and Christopher Fuss officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in Kathy's name, may be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, 828 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or Aldersgate United Methodist Church at the address above.
