Lydia Bacon was born in 1858 in Ione, Amador County, California.

Silas Braffet was born in 1850 in Indiana, the son of James Braffet and Lydia Slagel. He married Martha Jane Ballenger in 1872 in Lake County, California, and they had 2 children. He married Lydia Bacon in 1882 in Salinas, Monterey County, California, and they had 9 children. Silas died in 1936 in San Luis Obispo County.

Lydia died in 1917 in San Luis Obispo County. From Lydia's obituary:

Mrs. Lydia Braffet of San Miguel passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Ruth, Sunday at 3 o'clock p. m. Mrs. Braffet has been in very poor health for the past year and a half. She was a member of the local Parlor of N. D. G. W. of this place. The remains were shipped to Salinas Monday morning where interment took place. She leaves four sons and four daughters, as follows: Frank, Fred, Ben, and Will Braffet and Mrs. Blanche Willard of Oakland. Mrs. Kenneth Ruth, Miss Mary and Annie Braffet of San Miguel.

In 1940, Lydia's daughter Mary Alice Castro was the subject of a famous trial where Mary claimed that E. J. "Lucky" Baldwin was in fact her father and that she had been given to the Braffet family to raise.
