Julius was born in Prussia, near what is now called Poznan, Poland. He served in the Prussian military until 14 Oct 1879 and then married Ernestine Lucas near Poznan, Prussia on 3 Feb 1880 and left Rojewo Poland for the USA in 4 Jan 1883 and arrived in Baltimore 29 Jan 1883 from Hamburg. They then went to Paynesville, Stearns co., MN. He was in the 1885 census, now with three children withthe birth of Ida Ernestine Marquardt. On 29 March 1887, in Zion TWP, Stearns co, MN, he signed his letter of intent to become a naturalized citizen. However, he died 8 Apr 1888 In Paynesville, Stearns co, MN before the naturazization could become complete. His burial cemetery is still unknown as it might be in Zion and it might be in Paynesville.

The only cemetery in Zion; or renamed Roscoe is St Agnes so I put him there; but no proof exists and he is also not found in Paynesville.

More info: In the Bio reference from his mother in the Find A Grave Memorial, as to the son that died "early", this is a mistake. Johann Julius Marquardt born 1856 Posen, Germany, remained in Posen while his mother and one of her Marquardt children (Herman) and her two Kroll children (Adolph and Gustave) (her second marriage) left for America to join her eldest son August) . Julius remained behind for two reasons: he was enlisted in the German Military and he was in love with Johane Ernestine Lucas (born 1855 in Posen). On leaving the military, he returned to Posen, certified that Ernestine's first child Emilie Anna born 1878 was his daughter and married Ernestine before they left for the USA in 1883. The marriage certificate specifically states that Julius's father was Christoph (deceased tailor) and that his mother Henriette Hoft was now in America. Before they left, Ernestine gave birth to Gustave Paul (1880) and departed Posen in 4 Jan 1883 per the Souls List in the Posen library. The family of 4 arrived in Baltimore 29 Jan 1883 on the ship SS America from Bremen Germany and were headed to Minnesota. Sadly, the trail goes cold from here. One family tree said Julius died 1888 in Paynesville; so maybe that is why the interview said Julius died early. Ernestine remarried in 1889 to Daniel Werner and had three more children. Surprisingly, Ernestine's brother, Johann Heinrich Carl Lucas (name changed to Charles Henry Lucas) came to America in 1884 after his father had died. His mother left with him but apparently died enroute as she did not arrive in the USA. Charles/Chas Lucas did make it to Paynesville, MN where he converted to the Evangelical Church. He eventually moved to Michigan, Abilene TX (WHERE HE MARRIED) and moved to California and on up to Portland, Oregon. He became a minister in the Evangelical Association of Oregon, which became the United Evangelical Church. He died in Portland in 1922. He had two sons: Emmett and Uria. Emmett had one daughter Mildred Martha who married Richard B. Webb. None of Chas's family appeared to know of his sister Ernestine until 2015.
