Marvin Joseph (Joe) Stephens was born on December 22, 1923 in Easterly, Texas to Winfrey Buck and Ada Irene Towns Stephens, and passed away on December 26, 2016 in Houston, Texas , at the age of 93 years and four days. He was preceded in death by his wife Ida Mae Thomas Stephens after 53 year of marriage. Nickie passed away 6 days prior to his death at the age of 87. Joe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Guy Hutson and daughter Marilyn Thomson. Five grandchildren: Nolan Hutson, Britten McCormick, Darwin Hutson, Darryl McCormick and Warren survive their Pappa Joe. He also has 6 great-grandchildren: Erin McCormick, Clinton Hutson, Brittany McCormick, Holden Hutson, Tyler McCormick and Maigan McCormick, and 2 great-great-grandchildren: Joleigh Ann and Laddie Wade Williams. Joe leaves behind his sister Louise Stephens Corn. His sister Katy Mae Pardoll and his 2 brothers Edwin and Floyd Stephens preceded him in death. Joe leaves behind nieces and nephews and a host of friends and family. Joe served in the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Bronze Star Attachment (Double) WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge 1st Award, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Joe and Nickie were faithful members of Bethal Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. The family would like to express their love and thanks to Elvia Delarosa and her family and to Martha Lopez and her family for the care, friendship and love that they showed for our Dad during his long illness. They were his guardian angels.
