“George B. Pickett Died in Montgomery - George B. Pickett, 69, succumbed to a heart attack at his home, 106 E. Jeff Davis Avenue in Montgomery early Sunday morning. Montgomery county surveyor for the past several years, he was associated in business with his son, John Dow Pickett, in the surveying and civil engineering firm of Pickett and Pickett. He was a grandson of the noted Alabama historian, Albert James Pickett.
Born in Autaugaville, he had lived in Montgomery for more than 40 years. He had been active in surveying work for 52 years, during which he became widely known in surrounding counties as well as in Montgomery. He was a Mason and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mamie Dow Pickett; two sons, Col. George B. Jr., Norfolk, Va., and John Down Pickett, Montgomery; mother, Mrs. Eugenia D. Pickett, Autaugaville; a brother, William E. Pickett, Montgomery; a foster brother, Dee Dodson, Hogansville, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Henry C. DeBardelaben, Lowndesboro, and Mrs. Noah Chambers, Autaugaville; several nieces and nephews; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 P.M. at Griffin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Douglas, pastor St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Burial was in Rock Hill Cemetery, Autaugaville with Griffin in charge of arrangements.
Nephews of the deceased, Col. Joe Pickett, Thomas Moody, Andrew H. Fant, Mack Wainwright, Roger A. Jones, and H. C. DeBardelaben served as active pallbearers.
