Geraldean “Jeri” Burke, 88, of Haskell, Texas passed away Friday, December 30, 2016. A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Greenwood Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 1, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D, Haskell, Texas 79521. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com
Jeri was born in Seymour, Texas to Joseph Milton and Johnnie Loraine (Castleberry) Worrell on July 8, 1928. While in Gonzales, she worked for Warm Springs Foundation Hospital as a manager for several years. After moving to Abilene, she worked as a secretary for Nick Nelson’s American General Insurance Company, where she retired in 1989. On February 5, 1948, she married James Hodges Burke. She was involved with TEEA, Noah’s Project, and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for numerous years. She attended East Side Baptist Church, and enjoyed bowling, sewing, and loved working in the yard and garden.
Jeri was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Hodges Burke, brothers-in-law Don Whitfield, Bobby Roberts, Al Bond and nephew Gordy Bond.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Jenkins and husband Bobby of Haskell; granddaughter, Dana Pinkston and husband Larry of Fort Worth; grandsons, Trey Iley and wife Peggy of Gonzales, Darrell Jenkins and wife Cindi of Taylor, Glenn Jenkins and wife Becky of Meadow Lakes; great-grandchildren, Cheyann, Brianna, Dalyn, Kourtney, Karie, and Cody and five great, great-grandchildren. Jeri is also survived by sister, Coleta Whitfield of Haskell; brother, Joe Worrell and wife Michele of Haskell; sister, Barbara Roberts of Haskell; niece, Carla Hannsz and husband Jerry of Haskell; sisters-in-law, Mary Francis Sunday and husband Bob of Houston, Anna Bond of Baytown, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
