Obituary

YATES, MR. PORTER JACOBS, JR., age 83, of Mountain Brook, AL, passed away November 7, 2011. He was born on January 14, 1928 in Florence, AL. He died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He attended the University of North Alabama and married his high school sweetheart, Betty, on April 16, 1949 in Gadsden, AL in a ceremony conducted by Dr. Denson Franklin. He was a warrant officer in the US Army for three years. He proudly served his country in Korea from 1953 - 54. He retired in 1986 from Liberty National after 30 years. He was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Porter Jacobs Yates, Sr.; his brother, Robert E. Yates; and his sister, Betty Yates Moore. He is survived by his spouse of 62 years, Betty Stubbs Yates; son, Harry Steven Yates (Deborah); daughter, Nancy Yates Higginbotham (Patrick); grandchildren, Melissa Yates Elliott (Jay), Emily Yates Sewell (RJ), Bradley Yates Higginbotham and Ryan Patrick Higginbotham; great-grandchild, Jonah Wesley Elliott. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 12 Noon at Elmwood Cemetery. Dr. Bill Morgan and Rev. Leon Precise officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM
