Master Sergeant Stephen Walker Booth & Mrs. Dawn McLendon Booth ages 33, of Castle Rock Dr., Sanford, NC., passed away tragically on Saturday, April 25, 2009, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. She was born December 7, 1975 in Carroll County, Georgia, the daughter of Diane Pollard McLendon and Henry McLendon. He was born July 14, 1975 in Fayetteville, North Carolina the son of Kathy Smith Booth and the late Steve Booth. Besides her husband, Dawn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. H.N. McLendon and Helen Pollard. Besides his wife and father, Walker was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Booth and grandparents, Bob & Eleanor Smith. Besides parents of the couple survivors are sons, Rhyan Booth and Garrett Booth; sister as well as sister in law and brother in law, Nancy & Pete Farmer of Temple, Ga.; grandfather, Junior Pollard of Ranburne, AL.; grandmother, Edith Booth of Fayetteville, NC. Dawn & Walker began their life as high school sweethearts as well as graduates of Central High School Class of 1994. They later married on December 30, 1995 and started a lifelong journey together. Dawn had worked as a radiology tech since 1999 and was a member of Village Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC. MSG. Booth entered the United States Army as an Infantryman on May 9, 1995. After completion of initial entry training and Airborne School, MSG Booth was assigned to B Co, 1st BN, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, Ft. Bragg, N. C. where he served until 1998. MSG. Booth was then assigned to 1st BN, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Ft. Richardson, AK. After completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course, MSG Booth was assigned to B Co 1st BN, 3rd SFG (A), for three years and then B Co, 2nd BN, 3rd SFG (A). MSG Booth served as a junior Weapon Sergeant, and a senior Weapon Sergeant. MSG. Booth current assignments were the Operations Sergeant (TM SGT) for SFODA 3225. MSG Booth’s military education includes Basic Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Military Free Fall, Parachutist Course Military Free Fall Jumpmaster Course, PLDC, BNCOC, Air Assault School, Combat Leaders Course, Ranger School, Warrior Leaders Course Special Forces Weapons Sergeant Course, ANCOC, SOF Armor Course, Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance Target Analysis and Exploitation Techniques Course, Special Operations Target Interdiction Course and several civilian courses to include Blackwater, Final Option Self Defense Pistol and Carbine Course, and Mid-South Self Defense Shooting School. MSG. Booth’s awards include the Bronze Star w/3OLC, the Army Commendation Medal w/5OLC (2 for Valor). Army Good Conduct Medal 4th award, Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Award, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w/ numeral 3 , Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, the Multi-National Force of Observers Ribbon, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge with Star. Along with all Walkers accomplishments, Dawn & Walker were still both loving parents as well as dedicated to each other and their children. She was dedicated as well as a full time mom and military wife and had a love for other things such as, scrape booking, photography, equestrian horseback riding, riding their motorcycle and cooking. He loved spending time with his boys, riding their motorcycle and being a Marksman. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 2 PM from Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Wolfe and Rev. Mike Owenby officiating. Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 3225 will serve as pallbearers and Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 3223 will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors and Chaplain Davis will officiate.
