Mrs. Ann (Sailer) Courneen, 95, formerly of Gettysburg, PA, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at The Leland of Laurel Run, Waynesboro, PA.

Born December 14, 1921 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John F. "Jack" and Bridget (Murphy) Sailer. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Vincent R. Courneen, who died March 9, 1958; three siblings: Helen B. McAndrew, John "Jack" Sailer and James "Joe" Sailer, and great-granddaughter, Sarah Bourdeau.

Ann grew up in Scranton and from an early age took dancing and singing lessons and enjoyed performing on stage at the local community center. During the war she worked for the O.S.S. in San Franciso; later she taught dancing in up-state NY and after the death of her husband and moving to Gettysburg, PA, she worked as a secretary at the Gettysburg College Dining Hall. During this time, Ann took dietician and food industry related courses. Before her retirement in 1984, she had been the Manager at the Gettysburg College dining hall, and Dietary Director at Annie M. Warner / Gettysburg Hospital.

She was a former member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Gettysburg, and after moving to Waynesboro, she became a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Mrs. Courneen is survived by two daughters: Judith A. Rohanna and her husband, James of Gettysburg and Patricia H. Bourdeau and her husband, Roland of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St. Waynesboro, PA, celebrated by Rev. Augusty Valomchalil MSSCC. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Lima, NY.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St. Waynesboro, PA 17268, St. Francis Xavier Church, 455 Table Rock Rd. Gettysburg, PA 17325, or to Gettysburg Hospital, 147 Gettys St. Gettysburg, PA 17325.
