Doris Jean Holmes was born on April 15, 1929, at Reasnor, Iowa. She was the third of five children that were born to Floyd Francis and Nellie Mae (Farmer) Holmes. Doris attended grade school at Reasnor and then Monroe High School at Monroe, Iowa.
Doris met Marvin Eugene De Moss at a square dance in Monroe and they were united in marriage on November 20, 1945, at Knoxville, Iowa.
Doris and "Pete", as he was known, became the best of friends and always worked together side by side. They raised four children: Janet Marie, Wesley Dean, Benton Eugene and Tamra Jean, on their home they had built and kept their family close during the 71 years of their married life together.
They lived on Wrex and Vena Colwell's farm in Marion County for the first ten years until moving into a home in Knoxville, Iowa. Doris worked at the Ben Franklin Store, was a bookkeeper for Goodyear and Spahn & Rose Lumber and then was employed at the Overall Factory in Knoxville. They had moved to the farm at Pleasantville, Iowa in 1962 and Doris retired from her employment in 1969 to take care of their youngest daughter, Tammy and assist her husband "Pete" with raising hogs.
Doris and "Pete" enjoyed camping, fishing at their pond, mushroom hunting, and playing cards. They loved to square dance and clogging at the Iowa State Fair. Doris did a lot of sewing, making ceramics and woodworking. They were very proud of their Christmas light display which was featured on KCCI-TV, but most importantly they enjoyed spending time with their family, which was their most important focus.
In April, 2013 Doris became a resident at the Griffin Nursing Home in Knoxville and passed away at Accura Health Care of Knoxville on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the age of 87 years.
Those who will cherish her memory are her husband, Marvin De Moss; their four children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Doris will be remembered as a loving wife and best friend and buddy to her husband, Marvin; a great mother; wonderful grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; and a friend to all.
