Douglas Scott Duncan, 57, of Butte died on Sunday, December 25 2016. Doug was born on March 10, 1959 in Butte to Don and Marg Duncan. He was the youngest of eight children.

Doug attended McKinley Elementary School, West Junior High School, and graduated from Butte High School in 1977. Doug married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Royse, on June 07, 1980. Doug and Nancy welcomed their only child, Kevin Scott, on July 28, 1986.

Doug started his career working at Mountain Bell Telephone Company. He held other positions at Yellow Front Store, Montana Tech, and Tetragenics. Doug started working at REC Silicon in 1999, and was still employed thereat the time on his death.

Doug obtained his pilot license in 1992. He truly enjoyed flying his own plane. It brought him much freedom and peace. He could be found in the air most Friday mornings, when the weather allowed. He would take his 2-way radio and Nancy would have the other radio, so Doug could keep her posted on his travels. She would always know when he landed safely.

Doug and Nancy became grandparents, known as Amma and Bumpa, to their grandson, Jaxon William Duncan on July 03, 2014. Jaxon was Doug’s pride and joy. He loved to be on the floor, or in the grass, rolling around with Jaxon, the two of them giggling. It brought a smile to your face just to see them together.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ron and Randy Duncan; brother-in-law, Dan Royse; and uncle, Jimmy Stinnette.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy Duncan; son, Kevin (Brittany) Duncan; grandson, Jaxon Duncan; granddaughter, who is due in April of 2017; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Donna Royse, all of Butte; sister, Patty Hoy of Edmonds, Washington, Cary (Celestine) Duncan of Helena, Montana, Dick (Cathy) Duncan of Longmont, Colorado, Tom Duncan of Bellevue, Washington, Pam (Mike) Rudolph of Butte; aunt, Kitty Stinnette of Bend Oregon; sister-in-law, Judie VanKooiman of Winthrop, Massachusetts, brother-in-law, Doug (Dorrie) Royse of Butte, sister-in-law, Tracy Royse of Butte; and numerous nieces and nephews, which include, Kayla (Dan) Lacey, Tiffany Mayson, Nicole Sestrich, and Markus Royse.

Cremation has taken place. In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned at this time.

Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society, Cancer Research, Highlands Hospice, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
