MISHAWAKA, IN - Joseph E. Hirsch, 97, of Mishawaka, IN, passed on Monday December 26, 2016, in Sanctuary at St. Paul's.
Joseph was born January 1, 1919, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Joseph and Florence (Hamman) Hirsch. Joseph was married on May, 29, 1940, to the late LoRayne (Allen), who preceded him in death on April 21, 1996. On November 28, 1998, Joseph was then married to Margaret (Blalock) who also preceded him in death. Joseph is survived by his 3 children, Anthony (Marcia) Hirsch, of Mishawaka, IN, Shelley (Gregory) Zieman, of Tucson, AZ, Patricia (Raymond) Alford, of Tucson, AZ, 10 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Joseph is also survived by 1 sister, Gloria (Bert) Houtman, of Dowagiac, MI. Joseph was preceded in death by his son Michael Hirsch, brother, Floyd Johnson, 2 sisters, Helen, and Irene. Joseph proudly served his country with the United States Army during WWII and was in the Pacific Theater, earning many medals; American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and Victory Medal WWII. He was a member of the VFW 360, and American Legion Post 161. Joseph enjoyed camping, and collecting bottles and stamps.
Visitation for Joseph will be held on Tuesday January 3, 2016, from 11-1 pm in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. A funeral service will begin at 1. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family would like to send a big thank you to everyone at St. Paul's Sanctuary.
