Larry Franklin Block, 80, of Pekin, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center in Peoria.

Born March 1, 1936 in East Peoria to Frederick and Lillian (Wyss) Block, he married Emily F. Joos on June 17, 1956 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Fred (Jan) Block of Manito, Tim (Brenda) Block of Pekin and Larry (Teresa) Block, Jr. of Toluca; one daughter, Sue (Jeff) Hoffman of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Amanda Moore of Morton, Ryan (Michelle) Block of Pekin, Justin (Ashley) Hamann of Warrenton, VA, Laura Block of Normal, Heather Hoffman of Pekin, Kevin Block of Columbus, OH and Holly Hoffman of Pekin and two great-grandchildren, Evalynn Hamann and Zoe Block.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred Block and Allen Block and two sisters, Aldene Brooks and Elaine Hurley.

Larry first worked at Travis Cadillac in Peoria in their parts department where his brother, Alfred, got him the opportunity in 1955. This is where he discovered his passion for cars. He also worked at Pekin Machine for 21 years. In 1979, he opened his own business, Globe Auto Supply in Peoria. He successfully ran Globe for 35 years with his son, Fred, who continues to operate it today. Larry was well respected in the community and had a strong work ethic. He strived to make sure each customer was well taken care of and satisfied with their service.

Larry will be remembered as a family man, who brought his immediate family together every Sunday. Through the good times and bad, Larry kept his sense of humor. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and formerly was an avid bowler.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Joel P. Catlin will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
