Denese Kay Harrington Allen passed away from heart failure on Dec. 23, in Vacaville, at the age of 74.

Denese was born to Webber and Kathryn Harrington in Portland, OR, on Dec. 17, 1942.

The oldest of four children, Denese was a natural teacher, often holding "summer school" in the family basement for her siblings and neighborhood kids. Upon graduation from Madison High School in 1960, Denese attended and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1964 with a degree in Elementary Education and an affiliation with Sigma Kappa sorority.

Denese's devotion to the education of young children, to the UO Ducks, and to her community, family, and friends were constants in her adult life. Denese taught kindergarten in Portland, O; Austin, TX; and Fairfield-Suisun schools for forty years. She delighted in teaching hundreds of youngsters to read and to love learning.

Denese was an active and enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society, Table 6, and the California Retired Teachers Association, where she was a loyal and caring friend to many. She enjoyed travel, baseball, and activities with her friends and extended family in California and Oregon.

Denese is survived by her beloved son, Mark Travis of Los Angeles; mother, Kathryn Harrington of Portland; siblings, Nancy Harrington of Portland, Janet McDaniel of San Diego, and Bob (Mary) Harrington of Portland; nephews, Adam and Scott (Jenn) Harrington and their families; and longtime, devoted partner, Dave Elkins of Vacaville.
