John S. Vargo Jr. age 73 passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home with his wife at his side. He served his country during the Cuban Missel Crisis in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Cherry Vargo; son, Kurt; brother, Ed. He retired from General Motors after 30 years at Plant # 2 on Alpine Ave. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; daughter, Lisa and Steve Brewer; stepchildren, Georgia and Terry Parmeter, Georjean and Pat Morgan, Terry and Cindy Stickel; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister in law, Pam Vargo; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Dan VanBelzen officiating. Military Honors under the auspices of Kent County Honor Guard will be performed at 11:00 A.M. Interment in Fairplains Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Monday, 4 to 7 P.M. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Friends of the Michigan Veterans Homes.
