Sarah Joann (Burkett) Coleman, 72, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA passed away Wednesday evening, December 28, 2016 in the Waynesboro Hospital. Born February 21, 1944 in Waynesboro, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry W. W. Burkett, Sr. and Helen A. (Monn) Burkett. She grew up in the Tomstown, PA area. She and her husband of over 53 years, Richard L. Coleman, were married July 12, 1963 in Hagerstown, MD. Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker most of her life.
She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed words with friends, crocheting, puzzles, and crossword puzzles.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Tammie S. Burkett of St. Thomas, PA, Melissa J. Pryor and her companion, Aaron Brechbiel of Greencastle, PA, Richard L. Coleman and his wife, Buffy of Fayetteville, PA, James M. Coleman of Waynesboro, and Philip T. Coleman and his wife, Ana of El Paso, TX; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Kline of Waynesboro, Irene Beaston of Florida, and Alma Lee Burkett of Greencastle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers,Franklin "Frank" Burkett, Sr. and Harry W. W. Burkett, Jr.; and one sister, Dorothy Howe.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. William Hammann officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, in the funeral home.
