Harvard vital record indicates born April 22, 1803 and obituary April 7. There are several errors in the obituary so April 22 may be the correct date.

Enumerated in Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts in 1830 with one male under age five (b. 1826-30), one male of age twenty and under age thirty (b. 1801-10), one female under age five (b. 1826-30), one female of age fifteen and under age twenty (b. 1811-15), and one female of age twenty and under age thirty (b. 1801-10).

Waupsenie Creek referred to in Luke's obituary must be Wapasening Creek, which flows from Bradford County, Pennsylvania through the village of Nichols, Tioga County, New York into the Susquehanna River. It was probably along this creek that Luke Whitney was identified with a mill. The family removed further west and was residing in Southport, Chemung County, New York as early as 30 September 1837 when Luke had a letter remaining at the post office in Southport. Enumerated in Southport in 1840 with one male of age five and under age ten (b. 1831-35), one male of age ten and under age fifteen (b. 1826-30), one male of age thirty and under age forty (b. 1801-10), one female under age five (b. 1836-40), one female of age five and under age ten (b. 1831-35), one female of age ten and under age fifteen (b. 1826-30), and one female age thirty and under age forty (b. 1801-10).

They removed to Leona, Springfield township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Luke first appears on the 1848 assessment list (compiled fall of 1847) as a "new resident." Bathsheba died 3 Jan 1848 at Leona and was buried in the Leona Cemetery. Luke appears on the 1849 assessment list owning no property (land and animals). Luke enumerated in Springfield in 1850. On the 1852 assessment list, 2 oxen, no land.
