Elnora was born in Trenton, Missouri, to the late Grover and Izora Hertzog. She was raised on a mountain in Missouri. At age 16, Elnora graduated at the top of her high school class of three students, as valedictorian. At age 20, Elnora moved to San Angelo, Texas, where she later married and began raising her family.
Her career in San Angelo included bookkeeping for several firms and as a part-time seamstress. She was a church pianist, played bass guitar in a polka band, loved to dance, cook, sing, garden, and take care of her pet cats. Even though she was involved in so many activities, Elnora always found time to be with her daughters, and attend events for her eight grandchildren. Elnora loved people. She was always kind to strangers and willing to give a helping hand.
She was preceded in death by an older brother, Homer Hertzog; and an older sister Eva Jean Lowrey.
Survivors include her daughters: Janice Pennington and husband, Frank, of Buda, Linda Burleson and husband, Glen, of Salem, Illinois, and Marilyn Goff and husband, David, of Mansfield, Texas; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
