Rena was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a cosmetologist with a shop in her home until her retirement in 1982. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years of marriage, Earl Smith of the Home, three daughters; Lynn Gilmore of Davidson, Susan Johnsen (Robert) of China Grove, and Sandy McVay (Bob) of Kannapolis.
She is also survived by five grandchildren; Dallas Read, Autumn Schackert (Kyle), Bob Johnsen (Caroline), Tiffany Long (Drew) and Patrick McVay (Kacey), eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Willard of Millers Creek, NC.
