Edith Mary Keating James
(1919 - 2016)
Edith Mary Keating James, a native Houstonian, was born March 9, 1919 and died peacefully December 26, 2016. She attended Eastwood Elementary, Jackson Jr. High, Sam Houston H.S. and Rice Institute. She received training and certification as a medical technologist from Jefferson Davis Hospital. She was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was an active member of the Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters and Young at Heart. She was preceded in death by her very loving husband of 68 years, Patrick Henry James, as well as her parents Patrick Keating and Mary Ryall Keating, sisters Mary Harper and Gladys Crayton and brother Patrick Keating. She is survived by five children: Dr. Robert B. James and wife Jean James, Fred B. James, Cameron J. Harper and husband Dr. Al Harper, Shirley E. Lee, and Dr. Walter J. James and wife Dr. Deane A. Wallace-James. She loved her twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece Paula Harper Stephenson. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm, Friday, December 30, 2016 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet St., Bellaire, TX 77401. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway. Burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The family would like to thank caregivers Floris Perry, Melva Barnes, and Cynthia Okalfor, New Community Hospice, American Faith Homecare, and the staff of the Atria Westchase for their compassionate care. A very special thanks to Marsha Krutsinger and St. Cyril's of Alexandria for their friendship and bringing her communion each week.
