Jay M. Perry, 78, of Creston, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of complications from diabetes.

Jay Marvin Perry was born January 18, 1928 on the family farm in Carl Township, Adams County, Iowa, the son of James Olin and Eva Laurene (Kneller) Perry.
He attended Carl No. 5 grade school, followed by two years at Creston High School and graduated from Corning High School in 1945. He worked in Wyoming, and then began farming in Adams County in 1947. He attended agricultural short courses at Iowa State in Ames. He was a member of the National Guard for 12 years. He was an avid soil conservationist and in 1960 won the Des Moines Register State Soil Conservation Award. In recent years he enjoyed woodworking and photography.
On September 8, 1956 he married Beth Meyer in Creston, Iowa. They became the parents of two daughters, Elaine and Jane.

In 1963, Jay became a silent partner in O'Riley Farm Equipment in Creston. In 1966 the business relocated and became Creston Tractor Sales, a John Deere Dealership. The family moved to Creston in 1968. Jay was owner-operator of Creston Tractor Sales until 1991 when he sold the business to Barker Implement of Lenox. He continued to be employed there as a salesman.

As a young person Jay was baptized and joined the Carl Methodist Church, later becoming a member of the Creston United Methodist Church where he served in several capacities. He was a long-time member of the Creston Lions Club, Blue Grass Shrine, Crest City Lodge #555, Za Ga Zig Shrine, Creston Chamber of Commerce, International Flying Farmers, and Southwest Iowa Hot Air Balloon Committee. He also served on the Board of Directors of Innovative Industries. He was a licensed private pilot with 2000 hours flying time.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene, Clair and Merrill; and daughter, Jane. He is survived by his wife Beth; daughter, Elaine and granddaughter, Elizabeth Perry of Wellsboro, PA; two brothers, Doyle (wife Marilyn) of St. Louis, MO. and Russell (wife Starla) of Richmond, VA; four sisters- in-laws, Joyce Perry of Creston, Lavina (husband Will) Smith of Lenoir, N.C., Edith (husband Bob) Cary of Harrison, TN, Miriam (husband Larry) Frantz of Kent, WA; and many nieces and nephews
