Duane Francis Bursaw was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Royal and Fern (Juhl) Bursaw. Duane attended District 5 country school and worked on the family farm. In April of 1952, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the 3rd Marine Division and the 1st Radio Jamming Company. He was honorably discharged in April of 1954, and returned to Minnesota and received an agricultural degree and started farming full time.
