Artist. Designer of Coral Gables, Florida. Educated at the Pittsburgh School of Design and the Boston Museum of Art, he later studied at the Art Students League. At age 19, he became an illustrator for Scriber's Magazine, later going to Harper's and other publications. He became nationally known for his paintings being exhibited in the Art Institute of Chicago, the City Museum of St. Louis, the Pan-American Exposition in San Francisco, the Washington Art Gallery and elsewhere. He relocated to Miami in 1924 and joined his nephew George Merrick, the developer of Coral Gables. He designed all plans for the city, its entrances, fountains, plazas and the Venetian Pool. He was the former head of the art department of the University of Miami, where he served for 25 years. He also had his own studio and one of his murals being presented to the Miami Federal Building. Others are found in St. Francis Hospital, the Lake Wales Post Office and Miami Beach Surf Club.
