Phillip Chase Carter, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 25, 2016. He was born September 12, 1936 in Logan, UT to Ezra Grover Carter and Pearl Geneva Johnson Carter. He married Violet Shirley Shelton January 12, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland where he was stationed while serving in the US Army.

Phillip was raised in Logan, UT and spent many summers in Idaho and Montana, where he developed his love of hunting and fishing. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree in education from Utah State University and pursued a career in education. He became a professor at Southern Utah University, heading the education department and completed his Doctorate at BYU.

Phillip held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Elder's Quorum, scouting and High Council. He had many hobbies which included; gardening, building, reading, and history. Together Phillip and Violet built Willow Glen Inn located in Cedar City and operated it for many years.

He is survived by his wife Violet and children: Jonathan (Katrin), Natasha (Clayton), Marissa, Crystal (Steve), Clayton (Melissa), Nathan, Timothy (Casey), and 30 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Melody and son Benjamin.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00am at the Little Valley Stake Center, 2436 E. Crimson Ridge Dr. A viewing will be 9:30am-10:45am prior to services. Interment will be at Tonaquint Cemetery, under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880.
