Mr. Joseph Wesley Buck, 86, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, officiated by his pastor, Rev. David Kays. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Buck, son of the late John Washington and Josephine Roach Buck, was a native of the Clayroot community of Pitt County. He was a 1948 graduate of Chicod High School, and during his early life he was engaged in farming. In 1956, he began working at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station with the Federal Government, where he retired after 30 years of civil service.

Mr. Buck was a longtime member of Timothy Christian Church in Gardnerville. He was very instrumental in the rebuilding of the church when it burned down in 2002. He was a charter member of the Gardnerville Volunteer Fire Department, having been a volunteer fireman for over 40 years. He was also a former Assistant Boy Scout Master for Gardnerville BSA Troop #471.

In addition to his parents Mr. Buck was preceded in death by brothers, Prince A. Buck and Roman A. Buck; sisters, Rosa Wall, Lorena Smith, Maybelle Barber, and Cannie Dixon.

He is survived by; wife of 67 years, Sybil Haddock Buck; sons, Coy A. Buck and wife, Brooks, Craig S. Buck and wife, Laura, all Winterville; grandchildren, Candace Stambolitis and husband, Dino, of Charlotte, Hunter Buck and wife, Kaelyn, of Huntersville, Wes Buck, of Smithfield, Cameron Buck, of Winterville, and Kyle Adams, of Greenville; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Smith of Black Jack and Frances Jordan of West Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
