On the morning of December 24, 2016, Charles Frederick Childress, Jr. peacefully passed away of natural causes at the age of 89. Charles and his wife Barbara had recently moved to Springville, Utah after residing in Salem, Utah for 25 wonderful years.
Charles was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and spent most of his youth in nearby Brownsville until enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 16. Charles was a true patriot who served honorably in the Pacific theater of World War II as a Fireman First Class aboard the historic U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard aircraft carrier. After the war, Charles returned home to attend Brownsville Junior College and begin a long and successful career in business management. Charles held the positions of President, CEO, and CFO for various national and international companies including Singer Sewing Co, Holiday Magic Cosmetics, and Christopher Enterprises. Charles traveled extensively and owned a chain of health clubs across Mexico with longtime friend Harold Brown. Charles loved working in the field of mental training and became a certified seminar presenter for Denis Waitley’s “Goal Mind” programs.
Charles was very outgoing! He served his community as a Republican delegate, and never met a person he couldn’t strike up a friendly conversation with. He was an active High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was ordained a Seventy by LeGrand Richards, and enjoyed serving as a temple worker. Charles loved his Savior with all of his heart, and eagerly shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone who would listen. His devotion to his faith permeated every aspect of his life.
Charles was preceded in death by his sister Lillian. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara M. Childress, and his brother David. Charles loved his family dearly; he had seven children: Janis Charlette Childress, Jody Childress Wright, Janel Childress Mullins, Charles III, Chad, Brett, and Bethany Childress Hack. He was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
