Dr. John Ray Slaughter, 60, of Abilene Texas passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 28th from 12 to 5p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home on 542 Hickory Street. Funeral services will be held at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories at 10am on Thursday with burial following in Trinity Memorial Park, 6900 South Hwy 87 in Big Spring at 2:30p.m. John was born on November 17, 1956 in Big Spring, TX to Jess Jr. and Mickey Slaughter. He graduated from Big Spring High School and attended Tarleton State University & graduated from University of Houston, Dr. of Optometry. He married Glenda McInroe on June 12, 1993 and they resided in Abilene, Texas. They had one son, Taylor Slaughter. Glenda passed away in 2004. John was a proud member of his community. He loved cheering on all the local teams, especially baseball. He also had a love for horses. John was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Slaughter; grandparents Jess and Elinor Slaughter; parents Jess Jr. and Mickey Slaughter; grandparents Mathias and Genevieve Mikels.
