Dr. Walker was one of the original internal medicine physicians at Lexington Medical Center after it began as Lexington County Hospital in 1971. I started there in 1975. Bryan's date of membership on the medical staff is 7/1/1972. He was one of the founders of their practice (along with Bill Dunovant and Carl White), Internal Medicine Associates; and he was Chief of Staff of then Lexington County Hospital for the 2-year term, 10/1/76 – 9/30/78. A health event in about 1995 took him out of his medical practice. He and Ginny had been married for 45 years when Bryan died.

Obituary:
Dr. Bryan Lawrence Walker COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Bryan Lawrence Walker, M.D., 77, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service and a private burial will follow in Marietta, S.C., in the Cleveland Family Cemetery.

Bryan died Wednesday, December 21, 2016, after a long illness. Born in Augusta, Ga., on October 18, 1939, he was a son of the late Benjamin Hagan Walker, Jr. and Mary Miller Young Walker.

His intellect earned him a scholarship to Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and later graduated from the University of South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Bryan's life was distinguished by his service to his country as a Naval doctor during the Vietnam War, and he received a Naval Combat V Citation. He was a founder of Internal Medicine Associates in Lexington and later served as Medical Chief of Staff at Lexington Hospital.

Bryan was noted for his keen intellect and as a skilled diagnostician. He loved a good joke and was known for his sense of humor. Most of all, he was a loyal husband, father, son, sibling and a trusted friend to many. Generous with his time and resources, he adored playing Santa for his extensive family and friends at Christmas.

Bryan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia Cleveland Walker; sons, Bryan L. Walker. Jr., of Columbia, and H. Cleveland Walker, of Columbia; a sister, Mary Margaret "Peggy" Hatch (Gerry); brothers, Benjamin "Bunny" H. Walker III (Betsey) and Joseph M. Walker (Kerry), all of Augusta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles "Charlie" Bruce Walker.

Donations in Bryan's honor may be made to the Lexington Medical Foundation, 2720 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169.
