Myra was born May 12, 1937 in Matador to Earl and Earlene Whitaker. She grew up in Flomot and attended Flomot schools. She graduated in 1955 as salutatorian in a class of 8 students.
Myra married Bennie Don Brown in September of 1955. Myra worked at the Compress in Quitaque as well as the Quitaque schools. When the Valley school was built she became the school librarian. Myra worked at the school until her children all graduated, then retired from the school in 1989. After retirement, she and Bennie moved to Amarillo. Myra worked at Westgate Mall as a Customer Service Supervisor until Parkinson's Disease forced her to leave that job in 2002. Myra was an expert seamstress and avid quilt maker. She loved to travel and follow her children and later her grandchildren in their activities.
She adored her children, grandchildren, and most of all her husband Bennie of 61 years.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Whitaker of Oklahoma City.
Survivors include 1 brother, Jan Whitaker and wife Linda of Lubbock, Tx.; 2 daughters, Cherri Nan Sherrill and husband Terry of Gruver, Tx.; Donna Ann Syson and husband Steve of Amarillo, Tx.; 1 son, Brent Alvin Brown and wife Delane, of Turkey, Tx.;
8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
