He graduated from Pennville High School and Purdue University.
He was retired from the US Army where he served in the Korean War and World War II. During the Korean War, he was a lieutenant colonel on the staff of General Douglas MacArthur.
He was a member of the Pennville American Legion Post 482, Pennville Lodge 213 F&AM, and the Pennville Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Kelley Winget; two daughters, Jane (JP) McCracken and Mary Eleanor (Edward) Jennings; two sisters, Cosette (Earl) Klinger and Eleanor Winget; two brothers, Morgan Gray Winget and John Colbert Winget; and four grandchildren.
