Joyce Marie Barta was born December 12, 1935 in Lankin, ND the daughter of the late Wences “Winnie” and Irene (Gerstner) Barta. She grew up and attended school in Minto, graduating from Minto High School. She attended the University of North Dakota for a semester prior to her marriage to Luke Lutovsky on November 22, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Minto. The couple made their home in Voss, ND. She worked for Lone Wolf Farms and later was the bookkeeper for Voss Grain until retiring in 2015.
Joyce was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto. She was active in the Altar Society, a member of the church choir, taught religious education for several years and served as a lector and cantor. She was a member of the Minto American Legion Auxiliary, the Thursday Music Group in Grand Forks and community choirs in Grafton and surrounding area. She was also a member of the Minto Benefit Bridge Club. Joyce was an avid reader and bridge player. She was a talented seamstress. Her greatest joy and love was spending time with her family, especially attending all the grandchildren’s activities.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Luke of Voss, ND; children: Kimball (Julie) Lutovsky, Grafton, ND; Rebecca (Terry) Cote, Fargo, ND; Scott (Peggy) Lutovsky, Voss, ND; Dawn (John) Miller, Minto, ND; Darren (Kendra) Lutovsky, Port Orchard, WA; 17 grandchildren: Nathaniel, Garrett, Jordan, Lindsay, Whitney, Taylor, Chelsey, Josef, Zachary, Christian, Jade, Isaac, Blaise, Sean, Adam, Rachel and Lilly, two great grandchildren: Samuel and Scarlett, her brother, Keith (Debi) Barta, Ree Heights, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
