Johnny Rodin Mackey, age 83 of Kennesaw, Georgia passed on Saturday, December 24th, 2016, at his residence. He was born November 14, 1933 in Gadsden, Alabama to his late parents Robert Lee Mackey and Hazel Mae Hill Mackey. Johnny graduated from Jacksonville State University, attended Emory School of Law and graduated from Woodrow Wilson School of Law. Mr. Mackey worked a varied career while constantly serving as a minister in churches of Christ. He taught chemistry, physics and biology at Calhoun High School, worked for Northwest Exterminating and at the Redstone Arsenal for Martin Thiokol at the space center in Huntsville, AL, where he acquired a patent for the production of the propellant that launched the space shuttle. He owned the Victorian Tearoom in Warm Springs, Georgia. Johnny worked for Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia where he worked on the C5A and P3 Orion Jets. He sold cars at Jim Tidwell Ford and worked as an auctioneer, a real estate agent and owned a painting service. He is preceded in death by his sister Marie Mackey and brother Jack Mackey. He is survived by his daughters: Jane Mackey Law of Powder Springs, Georgia, Debbie Mackey of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and Teresa Mackey of Marietta, Georgia; son: Shane Mackey of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren: Joshua Law, Ginger and husband Haisten Willis and Griffin Melnick; great grandchild: Hazel-Jane Willis; brother: Robert L. Mackey, Jr. of Garner, South Carolina; nephew: Dr. Steven Mackey of Alexander City, Alabama; special loved ones: Sandra Mackey, Lillian Sutton and Stephen Law. A memorial service will be held in Ellijay, GA at 7pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Butch Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 5pm until the service hour at 7pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Logan Funeral Home. A second memorial service will be held at 7pm on Thursday, December 29th, 2016, from the Woodstock Church of Christ with Matt Amos officiating. The family will receive friends from 5pm until the service hour at 7pm at the Woodstock Church of Christ. A graveside service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Boardtown Church of Christ in Ellijay, Georgia, with Shannon Bearden officiating.
