María Antonia Josefa, was born at Villa de Sinaloa, Sinaloa, about 1772. She was the daughter of soldado Francisco Piñuelas and María Alcaraz. Since she was the adopted daughter of soldado Antonio Féliz Villavicencio (also: Villa) and María de los Santos Serafina Flórez, María Antonia sometimes appears in the records with the surname "Villavicencio (or Villa) y Flores." She came to Alta California with her adopted parents as part of Capitán Fernando Rivera y Moncada's 1781 Expedition. She was only 12 years old when she married the 30-year-old widower soldado Vicente Quijada at Mission San Gabriel on January 20, 1785 (SG Marriage 00222).
