Emma Frerichs Laid To Rest Monday

Final rites for Mrs. Emma J. Frerichs were held Monday afternoon from Hotchkiss Mortuary, successor to DeMark Chapel, at 2 o'clock with Rev. James Otter of the Presbyterian church officiating. The Native Daughters and Rebekahs assisted in the rites.
Interment was in Tracy cemetery with F. L. DeMark, Joe Texeira, B.J. Marraccini, Joe Payne, Henry Kahlke and Harry Sipe acting as pallbearers.
Mrs. Frerichs, one of the most active pioneer women in the community, passed away at her home, 114 East Seventh street, late in the evening of October 3. She had been ill for a very short time.
Born in San Francisco on February 20, 1870, she came to this community in 1879, first living near Bethany. Her maiden name was Goetjen. She was the widow of the late George Frerichs, who passed away February 6, 1933.
She was the moving factor in the organization of El Pescardero Chapter, Native Daughters of the Golden West, more that 50 years ago. She was a member of the Past Presidents association of the NDGW. She also wore a 50 year pin for membership in Samaria Rebekah Lodge and was a member of Past Noble Grands. She served as financial secretary of the Native Daughters for 36 years. She also was a member of Canton Ridgley Auxiliary, Joaquin Chapter, OES and Castle Rock Circle, Neighbors of Woodcraft.
Her other pubic service included serving as secretary of the Tracy Public Cemetery for a number of years. In this capacity she aideded in making this local cemetery an example for other communities to follow.
She was the mother of Miss Edith L. Frerichs, Tracy, and Mrs. Bertha A. Miller, Vallejo. She was the grandmother of William Miller, St. Helena, and Lloyd Miller, Antioch, and Mrs. Jane Erickson, Antioch. She was the great grandmother of Audrey and Tommie Erickson, Antioch. She was the sister of Mrs. Ida Entleman, Oakland, and Adolph Goetjen, Sacramento
