Russell William Jacobson was born on October, 29, 1923 at home in Hubbard County, rural Frazee, Minnesota. His parents were the late Jalmer and Martha (Bernu) Jacobson. Russ graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1941. He was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad for 2 years. Russ enlisted in the United States Army serving in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland during World War II from March 4, 1943 to November 26, 1945. On July 6, 1946 Russ was united in marriage to Shirley June Pernula in Heinola, Minnesota. Together they made their home and raised their family in New York Mills. Russ was a long-time employee of the Farmers & Merchants Bank in New York Mills. Russ was known as "Mr. Baseball" in New York Mills, he was a Millers baseball player, manager, scout, grounds keeper and bookkeeper for 3 Mills baseball teams. He was a founding member of the New York Mills Elders' Home, the bookkeeper and Board of Directors and a member of the Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 of New York Mills and their treasurer. Russ enjoyed music, gardening and square dancing with his wife, Shirley, playing baseball, golfing, playing cards and watching any sports program. On October 30, 2013 Shirley passed away. Russell passed away peacefully at the Elders' Home in New York Mills on November 26, 2016 at 93 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sheila; wife, Shirley; brothers: Norris and James.

Russ is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (Dave) Rudolph of New York Mills; son, Brad (Connie) Jacobson of Perham; 7 grandchildren: Jason, Neil, Jordan, Valerie, Samuel, Phillip and Garrett; 5 great-grandchildren: Brynn and Arianna, Natalya, Ethan and Oliver; sister, Ruth Oja of Sauk Center; brother, Alvin (Colleen) Jacobson of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.
