Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 3, 2010, from First Baptist Church Jackson Sanctuary. Visitation will be tonight between the hours of 5 and 7 PM at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland and after 9 AM Tuesday in the Church Parlor. Interment will follow the service in Lakewood Cemetery.
Andy was born April 3, 1923 in Ruth, MS. He graduated from Ruth High School, attended Copiah Lincoln Community College and took advanced courses at Millsaps College. While attending Co-Lin he was active in band, choir, and President of the Baptist Student Union.
He began his insurance career as Manager of American Life Insurance. He along with Mr. Owen Cooper brought three small agencies. After three years were very successful, they sold their company and Andy became the Manager of Hartford Life and Casualty, later joining Durwood Boyles and buying two smaller companies thus the beginning of Boyles-Moak Insurance, Inc. where he retired as senior Vice-President in 2007.
Andy was an avid golfer. He assisted in forming a golf group with First Baptist Church Seniors Tournament. Andy was a member of First Baptist Church since 1941, having served as chairman of the Finance Committee and Personnel Director of Adult Sunday School. He was very active in the coir and was a Chairman of Music, served on the Organ Committee, was a life Deacon of First Baptist Church, was past president of the Jackson Knife and Fork Club; past president of Jackson Association of Insurance Agents and held a degree in Insurance as a Certified Insurance Counselor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Carrie Moak; two brothers, Paul Moak, Sr. of Jackson, MS and Dr. Franklin Moak of Oxford, MS; and first wife, Mavis Simmons Moak.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; one son, Henry A. Moak, Jr. (Joyce); one daughter, Betty Sue Moak-Raab (Jim); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Peggy Brown; and one step-son, Steve Johnson (Angela).
The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Catherine's Village for their kind and loving care for the past two years. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Senior of Music Ministry.
