Publisher of the popular early 20th century children's books and books of poetry. P. F. Volland was married at least twice (Laura M., Gladys Crouch), and had 3 children (Gordon, Dorothy, & Gladys).

Volland was shot and killed by Vera Trapagnier in his office after a dispute about compensation over a miniature of George Washington. Trapagnier was convicted and sent to prison. Her son committed suicide due to the stress. Vera died in prison a few years later in 1921.
