George Richard “Dick” Whittaker, 81, of Holyoke passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in Holyoke. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 6 pm Monday, Dec. 26 at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Glen Osborn officiating. Interment will follow at Holyoke Cemetery.

Dick was born on March 13, 1935 in Haxtun to George and Velma (Winters) Whittaker. He went to school in Paoli, Haxtun, and Holyoke High School. He was in the U.S. Marines from 1954-58. He worked for Highline Electric from 1961-1987, was the Phillips County Sherriff from 1982-1989, and worked for the City of Holyoke Electrical Dept. from 1990-1996. He excelled in sports and was outstanding in baseball and football. He was an All-American in football and played baseball and football all four years in the Marines.

Dick married Bobbie Whittaker in Holyoke on January 17, 1960. They were married for 49 years and 11 months. He was a member of the Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed sports, hunting (especially elk hunting), fishing, time with grandkids, and putting around in the shop.

Dick is survived by his sons of Liberty, MO, Loveland, CO, and Marysville, CO and their families, including five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bobbie; grandson Mitch Whittaker; granddaughter Miranda Whittaker.
