Richard E. Liechty, 81, of South Bend, IN passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in his home. Richard was born April 7, 1935 in South Bend to the late Clarence E. and Verna (Welty) Liechty. On January 3, 1975 he married Kay (Cohee-Spicher) Liechty, who survives.
Richard is survived by his wife, Kay; his sons, Jeffrey (Kristy) Liechty of South Bend and Kevin (Teri) Liechty of Spokane, WA; his daughter, Diane (George) Fox of South Bend; his step-son, Jeff Spicher of Mishawaka; his step-daughter, Dianne (Brent) Urbin of Mishawaka, IN; and his step-son, Randall Spicher; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Evangeline (David) Gleason of South Bend and Carolee (Howard) Ogburn of Davenport, FL; and his sister-in-law, Anna Liechty of Melbourne, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ron Liechty and his first wife, Nancy (Harman) Liechty who passed away on December 30, 1973.
Richard worked in insurance, Life & Estate Planning and had previously worked at the Liechty Hatchery, which was started by his father, Clarence. He loved fishing and hunting. He was a member of Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church and the Greene Township Lions Club.
Services for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel; 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
