Ronald Gene Braswell, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 21, at his home, in Goldsboro surrounded by his family.
Gene was born in Wilmington, on September 15, 1942. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Gene “Ron” Braswell Jr. and by his parents, Maude Edwards Foos and Fannie and London Braswell. Gene is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mickie Rains Braswell and his daughters, Susan Braswell Lambert and Rhonda Braswell Coakley and husband Kevin. He has four grandchildren, Allen Lambert, Carly Lambert, Miller Coakley, and Rainee Coakley. Additional family members include his sister, Gail Foos Davidson and husband Joe, and brother Clifford Foos and special nieces and nephews.

Gene graduated from Wake Forest University of Law in 1972. He practiced with Henson P. Barnes and they established the law firm of Barnes, Braswell, and Haithcock which is now the firm of Haithcock, Barfield, Hulse, and Kinsey. Gene was a defense attorney representing clients from the local courts to the United States Supreme Court.

Gene was active in St. Luke United Methodist Church serving in many capacities and held memberships in various civic and community groups. He had a special affinity for the Boy Scouts of America and the Community Soup Kitchen.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 23, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine Street, Goldsboro, NC. and at other times at the home. A service celebrating Gene’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Adam Seate officiating and assisted by Rufus Butner and Clay Parker. Interment will conclude the service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church Youth Scholarship Fund, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or to 3HC, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
