NEW BERN | Roy Earl Murphy, Sr., 90, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at his home. He was born July 17, 1926 in Greenville, son of the late John William and Annie Holloway Murphy.Mr. Murphy served in the US Army and retired after 22 1/2 years. He was a certified welder and worked at Hatteras Yachts. He was a member of the VFW and the Shriners.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Murphy in August 2010.He is survived by one son, Roy E. "Buddy" Murphy, Jr. of New Bern; four daughters, Linda A. Hines and companion Edsoll Hunings of New Bern, Wanda Ann Turnage and husband William of Hookerton, Carolyn Marie Murphy and husband Kenny, and Karen Scardinale and husband Mike of New Bern; one sister, Estelle Dillahunt of Pollocksville; grandchildren, Chris Murphy (Cindy) and their son, Parker, Kristie Nobles (Chad) and children, Mackenzie and Madison, Mike Thompson, Denise Daniels (Chris) and children Leland and Mason, Jonathan Murphy (Coral) and children David and Abby, Ashley Cowan (Chris) and children, Dawson, Grayson, Jonas Thorne and children, Skylar and Jaxson, and Jon Taylor Thorne.Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25 at Pollock-Best Funeral Home, with burial following at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville
