A Spokane native, Debbie passed away peacefully in her home in San Tan Valley, AZ on December 4, 2016. Debbie was born in Wallace, ID on July 19, 1948 to proud parents J.D. and Billie Hensley. She was the eldest of three children. In 1952, the family relocated to Spokane, WA where they built a home. Debbie graduated Joel E. Ferris High School in 1966, and remained active in alumni events until her death. She went on to graduate from North Seattle Community College with a degree in law enforcement, which she put to good use working for the Attorney General's Office in Olympia, WA as an DSHS investigator. Debbie remained at the Attorney General's Office until she retired.

Debbie was a well-rounded woman, and above anything else, family always came first. She loved traveling, Mariners baseball, Seahawks football, and was active in her church and many other clubs and organizations. She always had her camera nearby, snapping photos everywhere she went. In addition to working a full-time job and traveling back and forth between Seattle and Spokane; Debbie was also a member of the Caribbean Superstars Steel Drum Band from the late seventies into the nineties. Debbie was a free spirit whose wit and sense of humor will be forever missed.

In 2012, Debbie finally decided to check buying a house off her bucket list. She relocated to Arizona where she could soak up the sun that she loved so much. Even in retirement Debbie remained as active as ever. She very much enjoyed volunteering as a teacher’s assistant working with children. Debbie had countless friends and relatives that she kept regular contact with. Debbie truly was the best pen pal, as she always remembered birthdays and sent out cards for every holiday. In a world that is too busy to take the time to talk, Debbie always did. She spent innumerable hours talking on the phone to her many loved ones, and always kept tabs on everybody. She was a friend to everyone she met.

Most recently, Debbie was the proud great-aunt to Jaxon Lucke and Clive Redding, who she visited every chance she could. She loved her summers spent in Spokane, where she could be closer to the boys, spoiling them with countless books and gifts from various places that she traveled. This past summer she also had what she later referred to as "the best time of her life" at her 50th high school reunion.

The world lost a truly beautiful individual with her sudden passing. She inspired and touched a great many people. Debbie is survived by her mother Billie, brothers Kevin and Scott, nieces Shanelle, Shauna, Janelle, Erin, and Mandy, nephew Charly, as well as several great-nephews and nieces.

A celebration of her life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home located at 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224 on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Services will be held at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to The Salvation Army, one of Debbie's favorite charities.
