Walter C. Wihebrink Sr., 63, Rt. 1, Leesburg, died Tuesday at Kosciusko County Hospital in Warsaw.
He was born in Anderson and lived there until 1971. He served 23 years with the Anderson Fire Department, retiring in 1970 as assistant chief. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Warsaw, Indiana Firefighters' Association, Warsaw Elks Lodge 802, Warsaw Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1423, VFW Lodge 1126, American Legion Post 49 and Barbee Conservation Club.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Eileen (Scott) Wihebrink; three daughters, Patricia Bunch of Fairmount, Barbara Turpin of Carmel and Virginia Wihebrink of Columbia City; three sons, Robert Wihebrink of San Antonio, Texas, Donald Wihebrink and Walter C. Wihebrink Jr., both of Warsaw; a brother, William Wihebrink of Markleville; two sisters, Mildred Petry of Anderson and Sue Ann Alfred of Fortville; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Stieglite officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, where military and firefighters' graveside rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, where a 7:30 p.m. liturgical wake service will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Home Healthcare, 827 S. Union St., Warsaw 46580.
