Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. She was a part of the 1964 Japan Olympic volleyball team that captured the gold medal in their home country. In 1962 she played on the Japanese national team that won the gold medal at the FIVB World Championship in Moscow, Soviet Union. Two years later she helped her team capture the Olympic gold in their home country. She retired from the sport in 1965, a year after winning the Olympic gold. Her son Shigemori Maruyama was a swimmer for Japan at the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics.
