Kathryn "Katie" Marie Murphy, 88, of Galesburg, Ill., and formerly of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 12:57 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Hannibal, Mo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Katie was born May 25, 1928, in Hannibal, Mo., to Anthony John and Frances Nora Campbell Hirner.
She was married to Richard Edward Murphy on Sept. 11, 1948, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death Dec. 17, 2012.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel E. Murphy (Phyllis J.) and Joseph F. Murphy (Elizabeth); four granddaughters, Samantha Murphy, Shannon Murphy, Denise Dimmitt and Jeri Danielle Murphy; one sister, Dorothy Borgstadt; and one brother, Charles A. Hirner (Joyce).
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Bernard Hirner; and one sister, Margaret Ann Miller.
Katie was a lifelong resident of Hannibal, Mo., except for the past three years, she has been living in Galesburg, Ill. to be close to her family.
Most of her life, she was a homemaker taking care of her boys and husband, but she previously worked at St. Thomas Seminary, the Shoe Factory and Western Printing.
Katie loved her flowers and taking care of her yard. She especially loved her granddaughters and enjoyed her time with them.
She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice of Galesburg, Illinois or Habitat for Humanity, in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Katie's granddaughters.
